The Olympic Games are being held soon! The Games showcase top sporting achievements from athletes around the world. Much like this large event, the conect4children project gathers the top players in paediatric medicine and clinical trials to achieve outstanding goals.

The conect4children project has been running for almost seven years. That is seven years of uniting partners all over Europe to build the foundation for a paediatric clinical trial network, identifying and supporting trial sites, fostering knowledge exchange between experts, and hearing the voices of children, young people and families.

While the project partners jump over hurdles and score goals on a day-to-day basis, the project has some particular achievements that have either made an impact on the paediatric research landscape or prepare the field for future support for paediatric clinical trials:

  1. Network of National Hubs
    1. 21 countries in Europe are now trial-ready and easy to access thanks to the work of the National Hubs. These Hubs are instrumental in efficiently implementing local or international multi-site clinical trials.
  2. c4c-Stichting established
    1. All good things must come to an end, including the conect4children project. That’s why we established the c4c-Stichting to continue working to ensure better medicines for children.
  3. Expert Network
    1. conect4children has gathered 400 experts from all areas relating to paediatric health and clinical trials (e.g. public patient involvement (PPI), clinical areas such as cardiology, and innovative methodologies for clinical trials).
  4. c4c-Stichting Expert Advice service open
    1. With the expert advice service, anyone can tap into a pool of experts to help scientifically sound, innovative, and feasible trials to be planned faster.
  5. CDISC Paediatric User Guide (PUG) launched
    1. The PUG is a guide containing cross-cutting clinical concepts related to paediatric research and describes how to use CDISC standards to collect and structure data used in clinical trials. This guide will help boost the impact of data gathered during paediatric clinical trials.
