Fundamental steps in the development of the Czech National Hub began more systematically in 2019. Since then, the Hub has been involved in several national paediatric research projects. At the end of 2019, the Czech Coordination Centre successfully cooperated with the Professional Society of Paediatric Practitioners of the Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyně (OSPDL ČLS JEP) on a study to determine the current situation of the use of anticonvulsant drugs in the Czech Republic in children under three years of age.  The very first results were presented in the form of a questionnaire survey, which took place in cooperation with general practitioners for children and adolescents. The results were presented in September 2021 at a Paediatric Congress; the study showed that in a cohort of 1224 children, the incidence of convulsions was found to be 0.3%, and phenobarbital, levetiracetam and clonazepam were most often used anticonvulsive drugs in children.

The National hub was named the Czech National Centre (in May 2022) in accordance with legal standards in the Czech Republic this allowed it to become a coordination centre for the Slovak Republic together with collaborating experts from Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, United Kingdom, USA, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Together our team has participated in several international paediatric congresses to present the successive steps taken within the Czech-C4C National Hub and the c4c consortium.

Other activities carried out by our NH include presentations and meetings, workshops of Czech-C4C collaborators, young investigators, and the CzechPharmPed networking group at the 20th Congress of ESDPPP, Prague, June 28-30, 2023. The Czech NH also organized educational events including an event about Pharmacotherapy in neonatology and paediatric clinical trials, which took place on Children’s Day on 1st June 2022.The next event is planned for November 25th, 2023. These educational event were organized in cooperation with the following C4C-collaborators, study sites, regulators-SÚKL, coordinators-CRO, our partners (third parties) – General University Hospital Prague, academic platforms -Czech Republic, Czech ambassador, the Association of Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry (AIFP) in Prague and the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University under the auspices of the dean of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, prof. MUDr M. Vokurka, CSs, and the Czech Paediatric Society.

The Czech National Centre (CzechNatHUb) has evolved a lot since its start as a “naive” centre with five collaborators (based on the networking group CzechPharmNet), but gradually became a multidisciplinary meeting place with more than 30 collaborators, introduced activities involving multistakeholder experts (i.e., neonatology), and starting with extensive open discussions with pharmacoeconomics, logistics, PPI – parents, children and developing the concept of research nurses among others. We are developing activities in several c4c work packages including clinical studies, communication, and education in paediatric pharmacotherapy. The c4c consortium where people “don’t have to meet”, but where they “want to meet”.
